Co-Founder of Directing Change
Stan Collins began work in the field of suicide prevention over twenty years ago after a high school friend died by suicide, influencing his passion for suicide prevention among youth. Collins’ work focuses on systems-level change.
Collins co-founded The Directing Change Program and Film Contest. In 2020, he was recognized as “Mental Health Champion of the Year” by the Steinberg Institute. Currently, Collins works as a consultant focused on technical assistance in the creation and implementation of suicide prevention curricula and strategies.
The Directing Change Team will discuss an innovative approach to preparing young people to recognize and respond to a peer in distress by taking participants through an abbreviated experience of the program and curriculum. The Program engages youth to learn about suicide prevention and mental health delivered through art and film contests and is coming to New York. 2022 Finalist student-produced short films will be shown. Youth in attendance can vote for the best short film!
